M. Scott Harris, Ph.D., P.G.
President and Chief Science Officer

Scott is a Coastal Plain and Continental Shelf geoscientist. His work traces sea level and landform change from the Ice Ages to today’s coast: Holocene and Quaternary sea-level history, barrier islands, and the drowned landscapes of the southeastern U.S. shelf, with work in Greece and Ethiopia as well. He works with marine and land geophysics (sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiling, and 2-D and 3-D ground-penetrating radar) and writes the software that turns the data into answers.
Over an academic career of research and teaching, he has taught at the College of William & Mary and Coastal Carolina University, taught summer courses at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, and is on the faculty of Geology and Environmental Geosciences at the College of Charleston, where he also directed the archaeology program. He holds a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Delaware and has more than 70 publications and technical reports and more than 200 talks and presentations.
